Magnolia Bakery flagship on Bleecker Street and Grand Central locations closed due to Hurricane Sandy, other Manhattan locations open

That's the bad news, Magnolia Bakery fans; the good news is that their Bloomingdale's, Rockefeller Center and Upper West Side bakeries will all be open today, on Halloween for your Halloween cupcake treats, like their "Boo" cupcakes. I was already dead set on this recipe before I realized I don’t own a hand mixer, and there was no was I was whisking those stiff peaks into life by hand. I whisked over heat for a while then transferred the mixture to my stand mixer with the whisk attachment. This did not result in the lasting volume that the cupcakes require and where I may have been tempted to whip out my hair spray to get these bad boys to stand up straight, they tasted too damn good to care!

I'm not sure exactly what I think about the eyeball and mummy cake pops by Chicago cake pop company Cocomori (via their Facebook page). They definitely spook me a bit, but maybe that's a good thing?
